Caledonian Sleeper

The Caledonian Sleeper connects London with various destinations in Scotland and offers a comfortable overnight travel option. The train provides comfortable sleeper cars, but also seats for budget-conscious travelers. There are basically two lines: the Lowlander and the Highlander. The Highlander travels further into northern Scotland while the Lowlander serves destinations including the Scottish metropolis of Glasgow.

What sleeper classes are available?

The train offers three types of sleeper compartments: Classic Room (entry-level with bunk beds and washbasin), Club Room (like Classic, but with private toilet and shower) and Caledonian Double (luxury class with double bed and private bathroom). For those who want to travel at lower cost, seating cars are also available.

Is there a restaurant car and what about breakfast?

Yes, the Club Car is a full-service restaurant car. You can dine there in the evening and have breakfast in the morning. Choices range from snacks to the traditional Scottish breakfast with eggs, bacon, baked beans, haggis, and black pudding. Club Room and Caledonian Double passengers have priority access when space is limited.

Can compartments be combined for families?

For families and groups, Classic Rooms can be combined via a connecting door to create larger units. For travelers with reduced mobility, accessible compartments are available in each part of the train, both as Classic Room and as Caledonian Double.

Are there seating cars?

For smaller budgets, the train also includes seating cars, which provide an economical alternative to the sleeper cars. Tickets are available from less than 100 euros. The seating cars also offer space for bicycles.

How are the washing facilities equipped?

Each sleeper compartment is equipped with a washbasin. The premium Club Rooms and Caledonian Doubles additionally offer a private bathroom with toilet and shower, which is particularly appreciated on the longer journey to the Highlands. Guests in Classic Rooms share the toilets located at the end of the car. Accessible compartments with appropriate sanitary facilities are available in each part of the train.
